               In today’s social life every user spends an average of 2 to 3 hrs on social media every day. Social media and internet have become the basic need for some people. Social networks have become the best and easiest platform for offenders to start communication, gather information and use that collected information for harmful activities.

Most Common social media related Cyber Crimes

Spamming: – In simple language spamming means sending nearly identical messages to thousands (or millions) of people with wrong information.  Previously spamming was very common with emails but in today’s era cyber criminals are using social media as platform to send spam massages. Sometimes these spam massages contain malicious codes (Malware/worms/Virus) or links which affects your device and stills all important information.

Hacking: – An illegal access to any device or a computer through different social media platforms is called hacking. Hackers usually sends malicious links to targets and when user access those unwanted malicious links hackers get chance to hack that device and still the sensitive information.  Cyber criminals use different techniques to gain access to the target device. the most common hacking techniques are sending malicious links and by creating specific tools/ mobile applications.

Phishing or Social engineering: – A technique used for collecting sensitive information is called Phishing. In Phishing criminals develops a fake website which is identical to the guanine one and circulates it to the targets. These techniques are used to collect individuals’ information like user name, password, banking details. Facebook or Instagrams fake webpage is the most common phishing technique nowadays

Identity Theft: – Identity theft happens when someone uses another person’s personal identifying information like name, photos, or banking information without their permission to commit fraud or crimes. A stolen identity is used by criminals to commit financial crimes as well as other serious cybercrimes.

Cyber-Stalking: – Cyberstalking is the use of electronic communication by a person to follow a person, or attempts to contact a person to force him to have personal interaction repeatedly despite the denial or monitors the internet, email, or any other form of electronic communication without his/her consent.

Cyber defamation: – It is nothing but damaging someone’s reputation online on different media platforms. Cyber defamation may be carried out through e-mail, spread of malicious gossip on social sites or posting an offensive content against a person on a social site.

Cyberbullying: – Cyberbullying means use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person. online threats, aggressive, or rude texts, tweets, posts, or messages all are counted in cyberbullying.
